MPVA hosts the "Plaque of Peace” ceremony

Korea holds “Plaque of Peace” presentation ceremony in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Korean War

Korea gives a “plaque of peace” to the ambassadors of 22 UN Sending States to express gratitude and emphasize the friendship with the UN states in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Korean War

To coincide with July 7, 1950 when the UN resolution was adopted to create the United Nations Command, the ceremony will take place at Deoksugung, the base of the Korean Empire’s diplomacy

[Sejong, Korea, July 6]— The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs (Minister Park Sam-duck) said it is hosting a ceremony to present a “plaque of pace” at 17:00, Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at Seogjojeon, Deoksugung* to express the country’s gratitude to the service and sacrifice of the UN veterans of the Korean War and to strengthen the friendship.

* Deoksugung was the base of Gojong, the last king of Joseon and the first Emperor of Korea, to conduct diplomacy and Jeong-dong, where the palace is located, is filled with diplomatic missions. Although the palace was targeted for bombing by the US Air Force during the Korean War when it was occupied by the North Korean Forces, the palace was spared from the bombing thanks to First Lieutenant James Hamilton.

The Ceremony will be attended by government officials and representatives of the UN Sending States and open with the video messages of the heads of the UN Sending States, followed by the pledge of allegiance, presentation of the “plaque of peace,” and performances.

A traditional Korean honor guard will pay the utmost respects to the ceremony, which will comply with guidelines to prevent COVID-19 spread.

In particular, Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun will give the plaque to the ambassadors of the Sending States as the plaque commemorates the 70th anniversary of the Korean War and will serve as reminders of special bonds forged in blood with the 22 UN Sending States.
