Meritorious Service Record

Lee Suk-jin was the wife of independence activist Cho Seong-hwan (曺成煥). As her husband was heavily engaged in the activities of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea, she took full responsibility for the family’s livelihood from the 1930s onward.
On June 17, 1940, when the Korean Women's Revolutionary League (韓國女性革命同盟) was established in Chongqing, China, she became a key member alongside Jeong Jeong-hwa (鄭靖和), Kim Byeong-in (金秉仁), and Lee Heon-gyeong (李憲卿). The organization’s primary objectives were to support male independence fighters, care for and educate the children of Korean independence activists, and assist in the broader anti-Japanese resistance movement.
During the Provisional Government’s arduous relocation period, Lee Suk-jin endured significant hardships alongside its key members, ensuring the continuity of the independence struggle. Her unwavering dedication and support enabled her husband, Cho Seong-hwan, to continue his lifelong commitment to Korea’s independence movement.
The South Korean government posthumously awarded her the Order of Merit for National Foundation (National Medal) in 2017.
