Meritorious Service Record
Lu Tianmin, an early supporter of the Korean independence movement, maintained close ties with Shin Gyu-sik and other Korean activists. He actively participated in the New Asia Tongji Society (新亞同濟社), which served as the largest organization in the early 1910s where Chinese revolutionaries directly or indirectly assisted Korea’s struggle to restore national sovereignty. This organization played a crucial role in laying the groundwork for the formal establishment of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea in April 1919.
In August 1920, when Jiang Kanghu (江亢虎), a strong supporter of the Korean independence movement, returned to China from the United States, Lu Tianmin attended the welcome ceremony hosted by the Provisional Government and pledged his support for Korea’s independence efforts.
In 1921, he represented Yunnan at the All-China Federation of Families (中華全國家系聯合會), where he proposed a resolution stating that supporting Korea’s independence was essential for lasting peace in East Asia.
In 1922, when the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea formally requested official recognition and assistance from the Chinese Constitutional Protection Government, Lu Tianmin, serving as the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Constitutional Protection Government, played a key role in discussing and formulating support measures for Korea’s independence movement.
The South Korean government posthumously awarded him the Order of Merit for National Foundation (Presidential Medal) in 1968.
