Meritorious Service Record
While studying at Central University in Nanjing in 1944, Su Jinghe committed himself to assisting the Korean independence movement. He collaborated with Korean activist Jo Il-mun in underground anti-Japanese operations, undertaking dangerous missions that required him to travel between Nanjing and Xi’an-a journey that took more than 100 days round trip-while evading strict Japanese surveillance.
In early 1944, he escorted his junior colleague, Shin Yeong-muk (申榮黙), from Central University to the 2nd Branch of the Korean Liberation Army (KLA) in Xi’an. Using the same route, he also facilitated the safe transfer of Koreans Lee Jeong-seon (李正善) and Park Ik-deuk (朴益得) to the KLA. On his return trip from the KLA’s Xi’an base, he concealed and transported classified mission directives and a special envoy identification issued by the Korean Liberation Army.
A commendation issued on May 1, 1946, by KLA Commander-in-Chief Lee Cheong-cheon (李靑天) stated:
"Having undertaken the responsibilities of escorting comrades, delivering intelligence, and establishing communication posts, he bravely penetrated the enemy’s tight security network. By completing the arduous journey between Nanjing and Xi’an-spanning over 100 days on foot-he demonstrated extraordinary dedication, which commands our deepest respect."
The South Korean government awarded him the Order of Merit for National Foundation (National Medal) in 1996.
