Meritorious Service Record
In 1906, he founded Yeongmyeong School (英明學校), a secondary education institution in Gongju, Chungcheongnam-do. He expanded the school’s facilities, constructed Western-style buildings, and increased the number of classes. By 1927, Yeongmyeong School had six elementary-level classes and two higher-level classes, with a total of 160 students. In 1932, he upgraded the school to Yeongmyeong Vocational School. Williams served the school for over 30 years, until 1937, and instilled in students the school’s motto: "Raise patriots who dedicate themselves to their country and people."
In November 1940, Williams was forcibly expelled from Korea by the Japanese authorities. He then traveled to India, where he established Ingraham School near Delhi in Ghaziabad, educating Indian students.
During World War II, the Korean Liberation Army (KLA) collaborated with British forces on the India-Myanmar front. When the KLA’s Special Operations Unit (인면전구공작대) was dispatched in 1943, Williams provided English-language training to the unit’s operatives at Ingraham School. His efforts helped the unit successfully participate in the Battle of Imphal and the Myanmar campaign against Japanese forces.
Frank Earl Cranston Williams passed away on June 9, 1962.
In 2023, the South Korean government posthumously awarded Frank Earl Cranston Williams the National Foundation Medal in recognition of his contributions to Korea’s independence.
