Meritorious Service Record

Yu Bin played an active role as an honorary director of the Sino-Korean Cultural Association (韓中文化協會), which was established in 1940. In 1941, he publicly called upon China’s 3.5 million Catholics to support Korea’s independence, stating, “Half of my efforts will be dedicated to China, and the other half will be devoted to advocating for Korea, so that we, too, may gain international recognition.” This declaration demonstrated his firm support for the Korean independence movement.
In August 1942, he donated 20,000 yuan to the Korean Liberation Army in Chongqing.
In 1944, under the pretext of promoting welfare projects for Korean expatriates in China, he provided 50,000 yuan to support elderly and critically ill Koreans. As a Catholic bishop in China, he refused to turn a blind eye to the injustices of the time and made significant efforts not only for China but also for Korea’s independence.
The South Korean government awarded him the Order of Merit for National Foundation (Presidential Medal) in 1969.
