ROK-Thailand Vision Camp

The ROK Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs holds Korean War Veterans’ Descendants Exchange Program

(2019 Vision Camp) in Thailand

          - The descendants of the UN Korean War veterans carry on their grandfathers’ friendship. -

The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs (MPVA, Minister Pi Woo-jin) of the Republic of Korea will hold the 2019 Vision Camp in Thailand through which the grandchildren of the Korean War veterans from both the Republic of Korea and Thailand will be able to build friendship.

The participants will together organize the Appreciation Luncheon for Thai Korean War Veterans and Family Members. The 2019 Vision Camp, in addition, will include various events including a Thank You Performance and group performances.

The participants will take the lead in spreading to the Thai public the awareness of the valor of Thai Korean War Veterans who were called as “Little Tigers” during the Korean War.
*The participants from Korea and Thailand will participate in a Thank You Flashmob in one of the main streets in Bangkok to express both countries’ appreciation towards Korean War veterans.

The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs said that the 2019 Vision Camp, intended to promote exchanges between the descendants of Korean War veterans from Korea and Thailand, will be held from July 18 to July 23, 2019 in Thailand.

The participants, who are all descendants of Korean War veterans, will be able to forge a strong friendship regardless of their different nationalities while visiting the Veterans General Hospital, a military unit that participated in the Korean War, and the homes of Korean War veterans.

The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, as part of an effort to promote continuous exchanges and cooperation with the UN sending states, has annually hosted Peace Camp inviting the descendants of UN Korean War veterans to Korea and allowing Korean university students to bond with them.  In particular, since 2018, the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs has hosted Vision Camp in the UN sending states in order to further strengthen the exchanges between the descendants of Korean War veterans.
*The 2018 Vision Camp was held in the Netherlands from August 23 to August 29, 2019.

The total number of participants of the 2019 Vision Camp is 32, including 16 Korean university students and 16 descendants of Thai Korean War veterans. In particular, 4 Korean students whose grandfathers fought in the Korean War will share the stories of their grandfathers’ participation in the war to the Thai Korean War veterans and express their appreciation to them.

Furthermore, the 2019 Vision Camp will be a participant-centered program in which the participants take the lead in establishing necessary plans throughout the entire program.

First, in the afternoon of July 20, 2019, all participants will perform a Flashmob at the Siam Paragon square in Bangkok in order to express their appreciation to the Korean War veterans. The participants will dance to a K-Pop song that lasts about 3 minutes and then hold together a banner that has a thank-you message on it.
The Thank You Flashmob will be an opportunity to make Korea known to the Thai public and show them that Korea is a nation that never forgets the kindness of the Korean War veterans.

Moreover, the Appreciation Luncheon for Thai Korean War Veterans and Family Members will be held and organized by the participants from both Korea and Thailand on July 22, 2019 to thank the Korean War veterans.
The luncheon will include watching a video clip of the 2019 Vision Camp made by the participants with the videos that they took during the program, speech by participant representatives from Korea and Thailand, sharing of the stories of their grandfathers by 4 Korean university students, and group performances by participants from both nations (Thank You Performance involving all participants, Taekwondo performance, instrument performance, and singing).

The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs plans to improve and expand its programs for the descendants of UN Korean War veterans in order to strengthen future-oriented cooperative relationships with the UN sending states
