A French War Hero Rests in Peace in the Land He Fought For

The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs (Minister Pi Woo-jin) will hold a repatriation ceremony for late Jean Le Houx, a French war hero who fought in the Korean War. After arriving at Incheon International Airport on November 1, the fallen hero’s remains will lie in state temporarily in Seoul National Cemetery and then be buried under in the battlefield near the French monument in the 5th Division where the veteran fought fiercely with the fellow French veterans. The repatriation and burial ceremony of late Jean Le Houx will be held with the highest level of courtesy.

The deceased veteran, Jean Le Houx served in the Korean War as sergeant of the French battalion in 1951 at the age of 19. He was wounded two times in 1952 at the battle of T-Bone, and fought in the Arrow head battle until July 31, 1953 after the armistice was sign on July 27, 1953.

The late veteran had said that he was deeply moved by the remarkable development that the Republic of Korea enjoys when he visited the country in 2007 as part of the Revisit Korea Program.

After his revisit to Korea, the veteran said that he wanted his remains to be scattered in the battlefield where 20-year-old himself and young fellow veterans fought. On December 30, 2016, the veteran passed away at the age of 84.
