The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs (MPVA, Minister Park Sam-Duck) said that the 2020 Vision Camp for the descendants of Korean War veterans from Korea and New Zealand, intended to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War and promote continuous exchanges and cooperation with the UN sending states, will be held from February 2 to February 8, 2020 in New Zealand.

The 2020 Vision Camp will serve as an opportunity for the participants, who are all descendants of Korean War veterans, to carry on their grandfathers’ friendship built during the Korean War, which knows no boundaries.

The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs is hosting the 2020 Vision Camp as part of the Statement of Intent for mutual cooperation and exchanges signed by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs of the Republic of Korea and Veterans’ Affairs New Zealand.

The total number of participants of the 2020 Vision Camp is 40, including 20 Korean university students and 20 descendants of New Zealand Korean War veterans.

In particular, 5 Korean students whose grandfathers fought in the Korean War will share letters about the stories of their grandfathers’ participation in the war at the Appreciation Luncheon for New Zealand Korean War Veterans on February 7, 2020.

Furthermore, the 2020 Vision Camp will offer a participant-centered program in which the participants take the lead in establishing necessary plans throughout the entire program.

On February 4, 2020, participants will lay a wreath and pay their respect to the Korean War veterans at the Heritage Memorial on Aotea Quay in Wellington, which was erected to commemorate the New Zealand force’s embarkation on a ship in Aotea port to participate in the Korean War as a member of UN forces.

On February 5, 2020, all participants will be joined by 200 students at Otaki Primary School in a memorial service with wreath-laying. The school has held the Commemoration Ceremony of the 1953 Korean War Armistice Agreement every year since 1993, building a special relationship with the Republic of Korea.

On February 6, 2020, all participants will join a Walk-A-Thon at Pukeahu National War M
