11 o’clock November 11, the World Turns Towards Busan

The Turn Toward Busan International Memorial Ceremony will be held in the UNMCK on November 11 at 11 o’clock under the theme of “Moment to be One, Turn Toward Busan.” The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs estimates 1,000 participants to be present at the ceremony including UN Korean War veterans and their families, delegations from embassies and distinguished guests.

The Turn Toward Busan International Memorial Ceremony consists of the march of national flags of the UN sending states, the Pledge of Allegiance, 1 minute of silence, remarks by representatives of UN sending states and veterans, and performances.

At 11 o’clock sharp, sirens will go off to signal the start of the 1 minute of silence in order to honor UN veterans killed during the Korean War. The commemorative performance consists of 2 acts. In Act 1, the story of the youngest UN veteran killed in action, Private J.P. Daunt, will be narrated and a Korean high school student will read a letter of appreciation. In Act 2, Michael Jackson’s “Heal the World” will be sung by Korean singer Sonya, Busan Namgu Junior Choir, and the participants.

In particular, this year’s Turn Toward Busan International Memorial Ceremony will be attended by the Speaker of the Senate of Canada George Furey and Senate Yonah Martin.
